Help guide, mentor, and support people in recovery
Recovery Coaches are not therapists nor do they provide clinical services. Instead, they help guide people on the road to recovery with the skills and support necessary for lasting recovery.
Recovery Coaches focus on non-clinical issues such as housing, employment, dealing with drug court and probation officers, and locating treatment resources.
Through a one-on-one relationship, they also help engage people with the recovery community, including different recovery meetings, and other support groups.
The focus is long term recovery through health, wellness, purpose and community.
Many locations in Houston offer peer support training including:
CRWR, Unlimited Visions Aftercare, Santa Maria Hostel, and The Council on Recovery.
** Some locations prefer you go through their organization to complete the training if you intend on woking with them. Choose which location and dates suit your needs.
After your training is complete, you must complete the 500 hours through an approved organization and document your hours. You apply for your certificate and exam through TCBAP (Texas Board of Addiction Professionals).
After you complete your required hours, schedule and pass your exam, and mail in all required paperwork to TCBAP- the process to have everything submitted
takes from 3-6 weeks.
3rd Friday of each month HRI MEETING - Come participate !!

The Houston Recovery Initiative is an effort to work toward a recovery oriented system of care (ROSC) for those who are affected by alcoholism and addiction. We create opportunities to collaborate with agencies across Houston, working together to aid those in recovery.
Does Peer Support really help people in recovery?
This strengths-based approach to recovery moves the focus away from people’s deficits and instead emphasizes strengths and capacities to resolve problems and create solutions.
